Soloist of Ballet of the National Theatre Brno
Jan Fousek trained at the Dance Conservatory in Brno and after graduating, he joined the Ballet of the National Theatre Brno in 2002. He was promoted to soloist in 2005. His physical versatility has given him the opportunity to perform roles across both the classical and contemporary repertoire.
He successfully participated in several competitions including the International Ballet Competitions in St. Pölten (1999 & 2002), in Vienna (2000) and the 4th International Ballet Competition in Seoul, Korea (2007). He won 3rd prize at the Competition of Dance Artists of the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic in Brno and he won 1st prize at the 1st International Ballet Competition in Brno in 2003.
He received the prestigious 2003 Phillip Morris Flower Award for the greatest young talent in the field of dance. He was nominated for the 2005 Thalia Award for the role of Rimbaud in Libor Vaculík’s Total Eclipse. He is now a dual recipient of the Thalia Award, the Czech Republic’s highest artistic prize, winning it in 2006 for his performance of Death in The Rite of Spring and in 2011 for his portrayal of Valmont in Dangerous Liaisons. He is also the holder of several DIVA Awards awarded by the National Theatre Brno for the best artist.
