Opera premiere: L'elisir d'amore

Love stories are an eternal theme in opera, particularly if we also find there humour and beautiful music, which is exactly the case for Gaetano Donizetti's famous opera L'elisir d'amore - The Elixir of Love. The premiere is at the Mahen Theatre this Friday the 20th of October 2017.

Prague is envious of our Le comte Ory

The Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno's performances of Rossini's Le comte Ory in Prague came to a close to great acclaim on 29 September 2017. Visitors to the Opera 2017 festival at a sold-out Estates Theatre rewarded the ensemble with sustained applause and shouts of Bravo! The success of the festival, with Petr Nekoranec in the title role and with Kateřina Kněžíková as Adèle, was noted on the Opera Plus website.

Le comte Ory with Petr Nekoranec in Prague

At this year's Opera 2017 festival, the Janáček Opera and the National Theatre Brno will be represented by a production of Le comte Ory by the composer Gioachino Rossini, conducted by Robert Kružík and directed by Lenka Flory. The performance on 29 September 2017 at the Estates Theatre in Prague will be Petr Nekoranec's debut on a Prague stage in an opera production.

Review: The Brno opera that gives lessons on etiquette

"This was great work from the conductor, Pavel Šnajdr, who rehearsed the opera and led the orchestra during the premiere. Šnajdr's systematic work with the independent Brno Contemporary Orchestra, made up partly of members from the Opera orchestra, has paid off for the National Theatre," wrote the critic Boris Klepal for the iHNed.cz website.

The Janáček Opera has the most nominations for the Opera Plus award

The Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno has the most nominations for the Annual Opera Plus Awards. The readers of this specialized website have until mid-October to decide who will be awarded in the female and male categories. Of the 31 nominations there are ten male and female singers who performed thirteen different roles for the Janáček Opera NTB from last autumn until the end of last season.
