The director of the National Theatre Brno, Martin Glaser, and the artistic director of the Janáček Opera, Jiří Heřman, accepted the Award of the Opera Association committee on 13 November 2017 for the concept and organization of the Janáček Brno festival. This took place during the presentation of the programme for next year's 6th festival, which will take place in Brno from 17 November until 5 December. The Association prize was presented by the committee chair and editor-in-chief of Divadelní noviny, Josef Herman.

This evening at the Divadlo pod Palmovkou in Prague, the principal conductor of the Janáček Opera NTB, Marko Ivanović, accepted the 2017 Divadelní Noviny Award in the opera category, in recognition of both his work and that of the director and artistic director of the Janáček Opera, Jiří Heřman. The jury awarded them the prize for their production of Kaija Saariaho's L'Amour de loin, which received its Czech premiere at the Janáček Theatre in March 1917.

After the success of the Hong Kong festival in February, the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno is also to perform The Makropulos Affair at the Shanghai International Festival. The production will be conducted by Marek Ivanović and directed by David Radok, with Annalena Persson, Aleš Briscein and Svatopluk Sem in the main roles. It will be performed at the Great Theatre in Shanghai with a capacity of 1,800, on the 19th and 21st of November 2017.
