Janáček Brno festival wins award

The director of the National Theatre Brno, Martin Glaser, and the artistic director of the Janáček Opera, Jiří Heřman, accepted the Award of the Opera Association committee on 13 November 2017 for the concept and organization of the Janáček Brno festival. This took place during the presentation of the programme for next year's 6th festival, which will take place in Brno from 17 November until 5 December. The Association prize was presented by the committee chair and editor-in-chief of Divadelní noviny, Josef Herman.

The Divadelní Noviny Award for L'Amour de loin

This evening at the Divadlo pod Palmovkou in Prague, the principal conductor of the Janáček Opera NTB, Marko Ivanović, accepted the 2017 Divadelní Noviny Award in the opera category, in recognition of both his work and that of the director and artistic director of the Janáček Opera, Jiří Heřman. The jury awarded them the prize for their production of Kaija Saariaho's L'Amour de loin, which received its Czech premiere at the Janáček Theatre in March 1917.

Janáček Opera NdB to perform The Makropulos Affair at the Shanghai Festival

After the success of the Hong Kong festival in February, the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno is also to perform The Makropulos Affair at the Shanghai International Festival. The production will be conducted by Marek Ivanović and directed by David Radok, with Annalena Persson, Aleš Briscein and Svatopluk Sem in the main roles. It will be performed at the Great Theatre in Shanghai with a capacity of 1,800, on the 19th and 21st of November 2017.

L'Amour de loin has been nominated for a Divadelní noviny award

Conductor Marek Ivanović and director Jiří Heřman's production of L'Amour de loin by the Finnish composer, Kaija Saariaho, has been nominated for a Divadelní noviny (Theatre News) award.

Brno receives an award for the Janáček festival

Czech opera professionals have awarded the Janáček Brno festival for its philosophy and the organization behind it. The Association of Musical Theatre Committee Prize for outstanding achievement in musical theatre will be accepted by the director of National Theatre Brno, Martin Glaser, and the artistic director of the Janáček Opera NTB, Jiří Heřman. Representatives of the Association of Musical Theatre made this announcement on Monday 6 November 2017 at the end of the Opera 2017 festival. The award will be accepted by the management of the NTB prior to an opera production on home turf in Brno.
