Freedom in love or death.

Freedom in love or death! Probably no other opera has such a temperamental and tough woman, such an elusive femme fatale. Come and experience one of the most famous operas in a unique atmosphere.

After last year's success, the orchestra, chorus and soloists of the National Theatre Brno have once again brought Georges Bizet's Carmen to the courtyard of  Špilberk Castle. The title role is performed by one of the most impressive singers of the younger generation, Václava Krejčí Housková, under the baton of conductor Robert Kružík. The leading men in her life are the tenor Michal Lehotský as the infatuated Don José, and Svatopluk Sem as the virile toreador Escamillo. This original production by director Tomáš Pilař, filled with the scent of tobacco leaves, takes us beneath the  unforgiving skies of Seville, where passion and jealousy abound. Come along to Špilberk on July 8 2017 or choose from one of five other presentations this summer.
