Ivan Choupenitch was born in Belarus and studied at the Belarusian State Academy of Music from 1981 to 1986, later further expanding his singing education at the International Academy of Lyric Art in Osimo, Italy. While still a student, he took part in several singing competitions, where he won many awards. He began his professional career in 1985 with the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus.
Since 1996 he has been a member of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno, where he has performed many tenor roles such as Jeník (The Bartered Bride), Don Carlos in Verdi's opera of the same name, Don Alvaro (The Force of Destiny), Rodolfo (La bohème), The Prince (Rusalka), Don José (Carmen), Riccardo (A Masked Ball), Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) and Pierre Bezukhov (War and Peace). He is also a frequent guest artist at international venues in Spain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Japan, Finland and the UK. Beyond the operatic stage he also performs in other various concerts such as Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Rossini's Stabat Mater and Orff's Carmina Burana.
