After the success of the 5th year of the Janáček Brno festival, the opera company will be the first to travel to distant Hong Kong to present Czech culture at the Hong Kong Arts Festival. This is one of the most prestigious festivals in Asia and for 45 years now it has showcased the leading music and theatre ensembles from across the world, and so the Janáček Opera NdB will be ranked alongside the Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Bavarian State Opera and the Paris National Opera. A production of Janáček's The Makropulos Affair, conducted by principal conductor Marko Ivanović and directed by David Radok, will be shown on the 23rd and 25th of February, with Annalena Persson, Aleš Briscein and Svatopluk Sem in the main roles. The Brno cultural scene can, therefore, not only be proud of the work of Leoše Janáček, but also of one of the best opera companies regularly operating today. The opera productions will also be complemented by two concerts by the chorus and orchestra of the Janáček Opera NdB. The first will be on the 26th of February with Czech legend, Antonín Dvořák's, Stabat Mater, conducted by Jaroslav Kyzlink and with soloists Pavla Vykopalová, Jiří Sulženek and Aleš Briscein. The following concert is on the 28th of February and is again dedicated to Janáček with his outstanding works the Glagolitic Mass, Eternal Gospel and Sinfonietta, again performed by our chorus and orchestra.
