Janáček Opera NdB to perform The Makropulos Affair at the Shanghai Festival

After the success of the Hong Kong festival in February, the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno is also to perform The Makropulos Affair at the Shanghai International Festival. The production will be conducted by Marek Ivanović and directed by David Radok, with Annalena Persson, Aleš Briscein and Svatopluk Sem in the main roles. It will be performed at the Great Theatre in Shanghai with a capacity of 1,800, on the 19th and 21st of November 2017.

There will also be an outdoor concert for Chinese audiences with music by Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Zdeněk Fibich, Leoš Janáček, Josef Suk and Bohuslav Martinů, which takes place on Friday 17 November 2017. The orchestra of the Janáček Opera NdB will be conducted by Marko Ivanović.

The Shanghai International Festival is one of the most important displays of theatre, dance, opera, classical music and art in Asia. Over the course of one month, this 19th edition will also present some of the best from European and world art, including the Berlin Philharmonic with conductor Simon Rattle, the Vienna Philharmonic with Andris Nelson, as well as the violinist Itzhak Perlman and the tenor Jonas Kaufmann. The Ballet of the National Theatre Brno will also be performing at the opening part of the festival with Black and White by artistic director Mário Radačovský. The Janáček Opera ensemble flies out to Shanghai on Wednesday 15 November 2017 and returns a week later.
