The production of Kaija Saariaho’s opera L’Amour de loin which we will be staging for the last time in this season on Wednesday 5th April 2017 was named “success of the month” by Theatre News. This label is used by the editors to highlight an exceptional achievement in the world of theatre.

“Staging the contemporary Finnish composer’s operatic poem was the fulfilment of a long-held dream for Jiří Heřman. It is no wonder that he was attracted by the musical scope of the subtle vibrations of the soul and the depersonalized, slightly mystical contemplation of the things that are simplest and therefore hardest for a person, such as love, following a dream, and death,” wrote the editors in the latest edition of Theatre News. In the 7th issue of this fortnightly publication this year, they stated: “He had already found the Janáček Theatre to be a suitable venue for grand stage gestures in a number of productions, and this one represents the high point so far. For this he had the ideal performers of the three roles in Pavla Vykopalová, Roman Hoza and Markéta Cukrová, an adaptable chorus, and Marko Ivanović, a conductor similarly immersed in the strange music, under whose baton the orchestra breathed as one."
