After half a year this exceptional production makes its return to the Janáček Theatre. Nearly a century ago, Káťa Kabanová gripped the people of Brno, and this new production by living legend Robert Carsen once again demonstrates the depth and urgency of this story about defying fate, even if the consequences prove fatal. Come along to one of two outstanding evenings in May when the calm and stormy waters of the Volga on the stage of the Janáček Theatre will reflect the desire for intimacy and passion, as well as the fatal hope that they might be reciprocated. Pavla Vykopalová as Káťa, Eva Urbanová in her heralded role as Kabanicha, and the wonderful Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius as Boris under the baton of Ondrej Olos guarantee something special. The production was originally performed by the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and has been enthusiastically received by audiences in Strasbourg, Madrid and La Scala in Milan.
