NdB 3
The Národní divadlo Brno Ballet (NdB Ballet) launched a new project that opened another dimension of dance. Following the establishment of Junior Company NdB 2, the Ballet NdB 3 was created as a platform for experienced dancers. The idea draws on the philosophy of three dimensions of dance that Jiří Kylián introduced at the Nederlands Dans Theater – and found its reflection in Brno, where a new ensemble was formed bringing together leading former members of the company. The NdB 3 project united charismatic personalities with rich artistic biographies, dancers connected throughout their careers with the national theatres in Prague, Bratislava and Brno. The ensemble comprises Nikola Márová, Klaudia Radačovská, Ivona Jeličová, Andrej Szabo, Martin Svobodník, Ilia Mironov, Nasha Mironova and Petr Hos. The ensemble celebrated its world premiere at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, where it performed alongside the Brno Philharmonic and leading Czech pianist Ivo Kahánek.
Brno audiences then had the unique opportunity to experience the ensemble in a more intimate setting. On 10 December at the Mahen Theatre, Ballet NdB 3 presented a programme of works set to music by Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů – with leading Czech pianist Ivo Kahánek at the piano, whose interpretive mastery lent the evening an extraordinary quality. The programme featured two choreographies set to music by Leoš Janáček – „On an Overgrown Path“ choreographed by Mário Radačovský and „Capriccio for the Left Hand“ choreographed by Japanese artist Megumi Nakamura – as well as „La Jolla“ set to music by Bohuslav Martinů, also choreographed by Mário Radačovský.
