The Nutcracker

Petr Iljič Čajkovskij

The Nutcracker is a Christmas hit of the Brno theatre scene and is a typical family show that we have been performing since 2014 and is still the most played and most visited title in the repertoire. The NdB Ballet boasts a magical overseas production of Ballet Canada. Fernand Nault’s choreographed version has been coming to life year after year for more than half a century on the stage of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal, where, like hundreds of other productions of this ballet throughout North America, it is causing a Christmas „Nutcracker“ frenzy. Among the strengths of Nault’s production are the lush rhythm, the fluid sequence of scenes and images, but above all the spectacular set and costume design, which literally dazzles the audience with its richness and colour. In addition to professional dancers, the performance also features students of the Ballet School I. V. Psoty and the Dance Conservatory of Brno. And it is with the large participation of children in the performance that this choreographic version acquires a tremendous charm that affects the audience and the young performers. The Nutcracker is the biggest project that the NdB Ballet produces every year.

Why can’t the whole world do without the Nutcracker at Christmas? Because Tchaikovsky’s music, along with the Christmas story of little Clara, will not only capture the heart of every little person at this time, but will also bring adult viewers, parents and grandparents back to childhood. It is simply the perfect family Christmas title.
