Doubravka Novotná
Doubravka Novotná was born in Hodonín. She graduated from the Brno Conservatory and subsequently from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU), where she studied under the guidance of soprano Helena Kaupová and received her Master of Arts (MgA.) degree in 2020. She has won awards in numerous competitions, including the Conservatory Competition in Pardubice, the Olomouc Singing Competition, and the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, where she also received several special prizes.
She gained her first stage experience during her studies. For the JAMU Chamber Opera, she performed roles such as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the titular role in Carl Orff’s Die Kluge (The Clever Woman), and Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. At the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, she appeared as Juliette in Bohuslav Martinů’s opera of the same name and as Elinor in Jaroslav Křička’s The White Ghost. Both roles earned her nominations for the Jantar Award.
She is also dedicated to early music. With the Musica Florea ensemble, she performed the role of Bärbchen in Jiří Antonín Benda’s singspiel Der Dorffahrwarkt (The Village Fair), and with the Volantes Orchestra, she appeared in a staged production of Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf’s oratorio Il Davide nella Valle di Terebintho. In a collaboration between Collegium 1704 and the National Theatre Brno, she performed the role of Morgana in George Frideric Handel’s opera Alcina, a performance that earned her a nomination for the prestigious Thalia Award.
