Jitka Zerhauová
Mezzo-soprano, Jitka Zerhauová, was a long-standing member of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno for 37 years. Her singing career began in childhood, as she attended the Mladost Youth Choir and The Young Madrigalists. During her studies at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU), she was invited to make guest appearances in several operatic performances. After graduating from JAMU, she worked briefly at the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice, and later accepted an offer of a soloist engagement at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. Soon after she was engaged by the opera company of the National Theatre Brno, and although she has been with the company full-time since 1987, she has also been a regular guest artist with the Slovak National Theatre and the National Theatre in Prague.
Thus it has not only been the Brno audience who has had the opportunity to appreciate her vocal quality in demanding mezzo-soprano roles such as Carmen (Carmen), Old Witch (Rusalka), Kate (The Devil and Kate), Azucena (Il trovatore), Amneris (Aida), The Innkeeper (Boris Godunov), Czipra (The Gypsy Baron), Kabanicha (Katya Kabanova), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) and many others. Beyond the operatic stage she also performs song recitals, cantatas, oratorios and works in radio and television. She also successfully manages the music agency Amneris.
