Pavla Vykopalová
Soprano, Pavla Vykopalová, graduated from the Prague State Conservatory. During her studies she was invited to work with Opera Mozart. Shortly after graduating, she joined the opera company in Plzeň where she sung, among other parts, the title role in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She further honed her singing technique as a mezzo-soprano with Professor Jiří Kotouč, switching smoothly to soprano roles in 2006. Currently she is privately coached by Professor Marie Urbanová.
Her repertoire ranges from Baroque to Romantic opera, including oratorios, cantatas and songs spanning in style from the Baroque period through to contemporary music. Since 1999 she has been a regular guest artist of the National Theatre in Prague, performing most of the leading roles in Mozart’s operas such as Zerlina, Donna Elvira, Pamina, Fiordiligi, Vitellia and the Countess. In 2003 she made her successful debut at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris as Karolka in Janáček’s Jenufa. Her regular guest appearances at the Prague State Opera have included performing the roles of Rusalka (Rusalka), Mimì (La bohème) and Desdemona (Othello).
In January 2009 she joined the National Theatre Brno as a permanent soloist where she sang the role of Mařenka in Ondřej Havelka’s highly acclaimed production of The Bartered Bride, earning her a nomination for the prestigious 2006 Thalia Award, the Czech Republic’s highest artistic prize. Other roles she has portrayed include Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Nedda (I Pagliacci), Juliette (Juliette), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), The Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Liù (Turandot) and Jenufa (Jenufa). In the autumn of 2011 she appeared with great success in the role of Jenufa in a co-production of three French theatres in Rennes, Limoges and Reims. She received another nomination for the 2012 Thalia Award for the role of Míla in Janáček’s Destiny at the National Theatre in Brno. She also has a very full concert schedule both at home and abroad, including sacred works and songs.
