Robert Kružík
Robert Kružík is among the young generation of Czech conductors. Since the 2021/2022 season, he has been the chief conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic in Zlín, and at the beginning of the 2025/2026 season, he will assume the position of chief conductor of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno. He also serves as the principal guest conductor of the Brno Philharmonic. In March 2023, he made his debut with the Czech Philharmonic at Prague’s Rudolfinum. He is a laureate of the Jiří Bělohlávek Award for artists under thirty.
At the National Theatre Brno, he has conducted productions of Rossini’s Le comte Ory, Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades and Eugene Onegin, Smetana’s Libuše (performed on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia), Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, Martinů’s The Greek Passion, Verdi’s Otello, the contemporary opera Here I am Orlando by Ľubica Čekovská, and King Roger by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. His extensive opera repertoire includes works by Mozart, Smetana, Dvořák, Martinů, Janáček, Donizetti, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, and others.
He collaborates with numerous symphony orchestras, including the Czech Philharmonic, MDR-Sinfonieorchester, Sinfonia Varsovia, PKF – Prague Philharmonia, the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK, the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Košice State Philharmonic, the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, and the Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic. He is also invited to prestigious festivals such as Prague Spring, Dvořák Prague Festival, Smetana’s Litomyšl, the St. Wenceslas Music Festival, and the Eufonia Festival.
Robert Kružík began his musical career as a cellist. After studying at the Brno Conservatory, he completed his studies in both conducting and cello at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He has successfully participated in several cello competitions, including Prague Spring, the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition, the Leoš Janáček International Competition in Brno, and others. He also completed a study stay at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Switzerland. Since 2020, he has been a faculty member at the conducting department of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno.
