No boundaries!…
The upcoming season will be about boundaries. A fantasy that knows no boundaries. And not only fantasy, but often love or the desire for knowledge. Let alone everyday human relationships. Do we know where our boundaries are?

The Year of Czech Music 2024, celebrating the greats of Czech music, will peak in the autumn Janáček Festival, where we will travel to the moon and the 15th century together with Janáček’s Mr. Brouček, directed by opera magician Robert Carsen and conducted by Janáček’s chief conductor Marko Ivanović. Our first premiere is in collaboration with Teatro Real in Madrid and Berlin’s State Opera Unter den Linden, which will also be at the festival with Claus Guth’s The Makropulos Affair, with music by conductor Robert Jindra.

The highlight of the festival will be the celebration of the 100th birthday of the opera The Cunning Little Vixen, which you can look forward to with a new cast – Adam Plachetka as the Revírník and Kateřina Kněžíková as the Fox.

The following premieres of the 2024/2025 season will be in the spirit of crossing imaginary boundaries within us, in the struggle between the Dionysian and Apollonian principles, which will culminate in the last premiere of the season in the story of the medieval King Roger, a remarkable work by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. The composer transports us to three different cultures with authentic music from Byzantium, the Arabic-Indian Orient and Greco-Roman antiquity. Conductor Robert Kružík will take charge of the staging together with the director of the younger generation, Vladimír John. Desire is a driving force that can break down boundaries but at the same time imprison us.
