There are wounds from which we can’t ever fully recover. Who is the principal character of the play Rain? It’s a writer. A writer who hasn’t been writing for seventeen years already. This number is not random at all: seventeen years ago, the writer’s wife deceased prematurely. It’s been seventeen years wince he has been living in seclusion. Every morning he sat at the table in his bureau but could no longer write anything. What should he write about? About life? He doesn’t want to have anything to do with life! What kind of a thing is it when it gave him less than two years before taking away from him the only being with whom he had been feeling genuinely alive? However, seventeen years later life knocks on his door again: he receives a notice to appear in court. He is called to serve on a jury in the trial of a young man charged with hot-blooded murder of his wife. The crime of passion reopens his most painful wound. Is he capable of judging the accused impartially, or is he susceptible to take revenge on him for his own suffering?  Ferdinand von Schirach (*1964), one of the most recognized dramatists of today’s Germany, is known to Brno audiences for his famous play Terror. To present Schirach’s most recent play Rain (2023), which inquires into a big drama of a man’s difficulty of accepting hardships of life, the NTB Drama Company has opted for the intimacy of the Mahen Theatre’s chamber stage.
