All that’s private is political!

Social movements for equality of rights and correct conduct at school and at work – such as the recent worldwide Me Too movement – give rise to truly human stories in which the presumed agressor becomes a victim, and vice versa. Having made several inappropriate remarks during a student party, an art school teacher called Vladimír gets into a conflict not only with his students and colleagues, but also with the public opinion and the media. Successively, he loses everything – his job, his family and all he has so far believed in. The drama is a distinctive theatrical apprehension of this burning social issue. The author, Marek Šindelka (born in 1984), is a Czech writer, two time winner of the Magnesia Litera Awards for his novels Stay with Us and Material Fatigue, and scenarist of the film Occupation, which won the Czech Critics Award for the best script. The ambivalence of the combat in which everyone seems to hold the truth and refuses to make concessions, is approached with a lot of sensitivity and humour. Given that the play deals with feminism, it cannot but be directed by a woman: Aminata Keita.
