The winner in the Male Opera category was Jaroslav Březina, who charmed not only the Brno audience, but also the professional public with the role of Herod in the production of Salome by Richard Strauss, directed by David Radok and set to music by Marek Ivanović. “Jaroslav Březina, in the character of the king, who grants the perverse wish of his stepdaughter Salome and lets her bring the head of the prophet Jochanaan on a silver tray, created an excellent comprehensive study of a vain ruler, domineering and fearful, vainly smug and pitifully whining, teetering between fear of God and by my own desire. His performance was chilling.”
